Some other things we did during our visit.
On July 4th John got us tickets to a soccer game
between the Denver Rapids and the Columbus Crew. The Rapids held a 1 – 0 lead
up until the 76 minute mark when the Crew scored. The game ended in a draw.
Clint Irwin is the Rapids star goal tender and a local favorite.
Not to be pit done by any pro team, Chris has been playing
soccer for a few years and has attended soccer camps. He likes to be near the
goal and has volunteers to be the goal tender regularly. Here are a few
pictures of a park where one of the camps was held and the some of the action.
Pretty good for an 8 year old.

We visited Forney Transportation Museum. http://www.forneymuseum.org/Attractions.html
It has a large selection of models, cars, motorcycles,
trolleys and one of the largest steam locomotives “Big Boy”.
This car brought back some old memories as my father had a
Buick like this, the only difference was that it was painted black. Nearby was
a Packard Touring car.
Chris took Gabby for a ride. Gabby’ favorite was this Buick.
A car built for a king but sold to a producer in Hollywood.
Big Boy was too big to get a complete picture. of but here
are some parts along with its story.
If you want to read about the wreck you can enlarge the

That same day we visited the Hammond Candy Factory. This is
an excerpt from their web site, “Hammond's complimentary candy factory tours are
fun and educational for candy lovers of all ages! Hundreds of thousands of
people from across the globe have seen how our famous, handcrafted candy canes,
ribbon candy, and lollipops are pulled, twisted, and shaped by hand – just like
they were in 1920. The Mile High City is home to our one-and-only factory
location where guests can see how our candy is handmade and hand-packaged from
beginning to end. It’s a super sweet treat you won’t find elsewhere!”
All kids love candy no
matter what the age.
Now, our diet wasn’t all candy and fast foods. Thanks to
Marta’s meal planning and John’s skill with the grill we enjoy many terrific
meals like this one.
